Do you have old, used clothing in your closet that you no longer need?
We invite you to bring it to contribute to the creation of the artwork re-(t)exHile and give it a second chance for reuse.
As part of the re-(t)exHile project by the international artistic collective Maria Alejandra Gatti, Martinka Bobrikova, Oscar de Carmen, and Anto Lloveras, in collaboration with curator Lýdia Pribišová from the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, we are preparing a large-scale textile installation in the Trnava Synagogue. This installation will be made entirely from old, used clothing and will symbolize the complex journey of garments—both their physical movement across borders and their deeper significance as carriers of personal and cultural stories.
About the Artwork
This installation is a dynamic and evolving piece, where each garment contributes to the creation of a minimal yet symbolic structure—a shelter. Hundreds of garments are sewn together into a massive patchwork, forming a growing space that reflects the shifting nature of identity, borders, and belonging.
Every piece of clothing in the installation tells a story. Through layers of fabric, colors, and textures, the artwork highlights the diverse origins, histories, and lives connected to these textiles. As more garments are collected and stitched together, the piece continues to grow, symbolizing collective effort and the power of transformation through collaboration.
Get Involved!
Bring us your clothing and join us in creating this collective artwork. Together, we can make art that not only speaks to the problem but also inspires change. Let’s turn waste into art—one stitch at a time.
You can drop off clothing at:
Ján Koniarek Gallery, Zelený kríček 3, Trnava (at the reception desk during opening hours) until March 30, 2025.
