What if old clothes could tell stories about the world we live in?
The re-(t)exHile project gives old clothing a second life and sparks a conversation about fast fashion, sustainability, and the global impact of our consumption. In preparation for a large-scale textile installation at the Synagogue – Center for Contemporary Art, we set out on a research trip to better understand the processes behind textile waste recycling and management.
During our trip, we visited SK-Tex, a company dedicated to textile recycling since 1998. Today, they recycle approximately 3,500 tons of textile waste annually. Their products are exported across Europe, including to Germany, France, and Poland. SK-Tex specializes in producing fibers with special treatments for the automotive and furniture industries, as well as insulation materials for buildings and vehicles—using recycled textile fibers.
